The Bantam Bulletin Of Brewster (the rooster) And His Hen Leona (the timid, little queen of mean)
Tags: Chickens Are Interesting
Picking blackberries from my backyard canes, I came across a nice, big, juicy, ripe blackberry that had a bug nest in it. I thought my chickens would gladly turn that into good eggs so into the enclosure it went - overhand.
It sailed across the garden beds, over tomatoes and peppers, and fell through the chicken wire roof into the run. All the big, brown hens went running for it, leaving little black Brewster the rooster and his little black hen, Leona, behind in the dust, cowering in the corner of the run.
Brewster then walked calmly to the hen that was holding the juicy blackberry. She saw him coming, dropped it and walked away to join the other big, brown hens.
He picked it up, turned his back to the brown hens, and stood there holding the juicy treasure. Leona cautiously joined her mate, Brewster. Once she was standing by his side, he dropped the berry and stood there watching her as she ate the delectable delight.
That's my Brewster! What a thoughtful gentleman.
