Tags: News In Marble Mountain North Mountain
Marble Mountain's 7th (?) Annual Family Fun Fest weekend begins this evening in the hall with a Darts Tournament and games. You can join in the tournament, bring your own darts or join in any of the games. Bring your own favorite games, someone will surely join you. If you are a jigsaw devotee, there is always a puzzle in some stage of progress, or kibbutz in between darts turns. Tea and coffee will be sold, as always. Bring your favorite snack to share. A small donation is appreciated but not required. Just come!

Saturday: Potluck in the hall at 5:00. Don't be late!

Sunday: Noon - 6:00 Family Fun Day on the beach with food (hot dogs, sweet corn, maybe sausage?), soft drinks and snacks (ice cream) available at the wharf. The Poker Run will commence at noon and end at approximately 4:00.

Remember to buy some ducks for the Duck Race. They are $1 apiece. I am not absolutely certain of the time, the duck race will be held at 3:00 or 4:00. I believe it's timed for when the boats return from the poker run.

We Have Great Water! Tests Prove It

Tags: Health Life on Marble Mountain News In Marble Mountain Quality Of Life In Canada
When we participated in the Atlantic Path study in April, we had to provide a sample of our well water. The testing covered a number of elements that are considered harmful in drinking water. All of the readings came out very low, some of them by the tens of thousands below acceptable level. Yay! That is wonderfully reassuring. Come have a drink of cold, refreshing Marble Mountain Elixir at my house. Drinks are on the house! Not literally, you can sit on the patio if you like while you partake.

Historic Graveyard on Graveyard Cove

Tags: Life In General Local News News In Malagawatch News In Marble Mountain
Today a group of us went back to the pioneer graveyard to do a little further cleaning of the site. In all, it was Kit & myself, Tom & Jean, John & Pat, Dave D, Jim B, Hughie (he was there earlier in the day) and all our pooches. We attempted to burn the brush & branches that we had cleared & piled up off to the side of the graveyard last week but the strong wind kept blowing out the flames. Even the best pyromaniac among us, Eagle scout Kit, was unable to keep the flames going. We will keep at it, weekend after weekend, until eventually we get the work completed.

Jean thinks she may have located a few more graves in the direction of the water. If the clearing is enlarged, that should help us to identify the sites of any unlocated graves. (Thank you, Hughie, for all your work.)

It is likely that the original settlers were Presbyterian. Where would we find burial records? I did a web search for local historical burial records or graveyards but this one must have escaped the librarian.

The names engraved on the headstones are MacDonald, Campbell, MacKenzie and MacKay. Several folks have taken pix that I hope will be clear enough to put on the community's web page (there is a Flickr account). Does anyone know how to do headstone rubbings? Those would be nice to have, as the engravings on the headstones are gradually etching away.

A Change In The Community

Tags: News In Marble Mountain
Marble Mountain's loss is Port Hasting's gain. Michealette has sold her house to Pat and Johnny MacDonald. Michealette's new address is in the Hillside community that overlooks the port. She has good neighbors there and I think that she will be very happy in her new location. We are looking forward to seeing a fabulous new garden in her yard this summer. I don't yet have her new address and phone number.

Port Hawkesbury's loss is Marble Mountain's gain. I'm not sure of the exact move-in date but I expect Pat and John will be living here very soon, with a new Standard Poodle puppy when it is old enough to leave its mother and littermates.
