Rob & Louise's Housewarming Party

Well, that was a good time! The party commenced at 3:00, according to the invitation. We arrived at 5:00 to find the 6 or so musicians fully engaged and the folks all fed on hot dogs. The music greeted us as we got out of the car a few feet down the road. There were salads of varied kinds, chips, dips and marvelous chocolate cake. Deb handed out ice cream bars. Nothing beats a summer party on the deck, especially one with good musicians and singers.

We got to see friends and make some new ones. There were quite a few folks from the St. George's Channel area and Ross Point. Kit and I were the only ones from Marble Mountain, though Iris should count as she was born here, Gabi & Martin from BHI, and another "out of control" couple from Cleveland, as we were described as being much like them. I am surprised at the people who didn't show up, some from MM and Malagawatch who assured us they would be there. I wonder what else was happening last night that pulled people to other gatherings. It was their loss, everyone had a great time.

Thanks, Rob & Louise, for the great party!

The hens are having a BIG crisis - this morning we introduced the black bantam peeps to the older hens, which are twice the size of the peeps.

The peeps are happily standing in their new digs but the older, bigger Golden Comet hens are aghast at the intruders in their house. One by one they trot up the ramp, peer in the door to their house, make very concerned noises, then trot back down to the run. They don't know what to do about the interlopers in their house.

An intrepid hen, one who no doubt must need to lay an egg, has found the courage to go in the house and into the laying box. She is in there making a ruckus and hasn't hunkered down yet to make her deposit. Poor things have no courage. This is also the first rooster they have ever seen.

The queen hen has been trotting around the run and up & down the ramp with her neck & tail feathers in a ruff but she has no idea what to do. Golden Comet chickens are known to be particularly docile. Bantams are know to be particularly tough. It's a stand-off!

Did I ever mention that my chickens are chicken? Everything frightens them. When they are scared they run for the safety of their house but not this time, that's where the scary things are.

My little, pint-size rooster is crowing his little heart out!

Tags: Entertainment News In Marble Mountain
My little, black rooster is growing up and he is feeling quite the big guy. He lets it out with full-hearted crows! He does crow, after crow, after crow, standing tall with his neck arched to let out the full-bodied sound. He has been doing this every morning for the last few days.

At first he was shy and wouldn't do it if he knew we were watching but now he's proud of himself and he lets it fly. This goes on for a few hours immediately following sunrise. As the sun rises higher in the sky, eventually he will settle down to keeping his lovely hen company. Then he will snuggle up next to her, with his little hen tucked into a corner, him on the outside as her protector.

He doesn't have a name yet. What would be a good name for him?

What a fabulous time we all had at the St. George's Channel Hall with entertainment provided by Rob Woodley, Pat Lamey, Heather Richards, Tim Laborie and Adam Cook and friends.

The music started at 7:30, with a full house and then some, and played until 10:00 with only a break for sandwiches, sweets and tea at 8:30. It was a blast and I am sure that everyone had a great time.

What a great bunch of people they are at St. George's Channel! They managed to raise approximately $1,137.00 for our new hall fund. Thank you all for your wonderful and much appreciated support. You rock! We couldn't ask for better neighbors.

Red Hat Society Joins Marble Mountain With New "Simply Marbleous" Chapter

Tags: Entertainment News In Marble Mountain
This is something a few of us have been talking about for several years and I finally got the lead out and started a chapter of the Red Hat Society in Marble Mountain. For lack of anything better, I named our chapter Simply Marbleous. If you have anything wittier or more catchy, please let me know.

Women of all ages are welcome to join, you don't have to be of red hat + purple age to join in the fun. If you are younger, just put on a pink hat and join us. The RHS has lots of fun activities and they offer plenty of discounts that we can use.
