West virginia,

Mountain Mama ..

What does it mean when there are people from Cape Breton, USA, Germany, Wales and more singing along together? Music is an international language and everyone joined in the singing, no matter their country of origin.

In all, there were 19 musicians and a full house of guests. The music last night was the best yet, ditto for the guests. Thank you, St. George's Channel folks for a great time!

St. George's Channel Hall will hold their annual Hog & Hen BBQ Day and Irish Pub Night tomorrow

Tags: Being Neighborly Entertainment News Food & Fun Local News Local Talent Music
St. George's Channel Hall will hold their annual Hog & Hen BBQ tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, August 7, followed by Irish Pub Night with Irish music and open mic. Great food will be accompanied by great Irish music and phenomenal local talent.

The bbq will take place from 12:00 noon until 6:00, then open mic from 7:00 to midnight, music all day, if it's the same as last year. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.)

It promises to be lots of fun for everyone and good craic, as the Irish say. There may be good beer from the Wolfville microbrewery again this year, I haven't heard anything about that this year.

We plan to arrive at 7 for Pub Night and Open Mic.  Come join us for a very good time!

Rob & Louise's Housewarming Party

Tags: Being Neighborly Entertainment News In Marble Mountain Food & Wine And Entertainment Local Talent Music
Well, that was a good time! The party commenced at 3:00, according to the invitation. We arrived at 5:00 to find the 6 or so musicians fully engaged and the folks all fed on hot dogs. The music greeted us as we got out of the car a few feet down the road. There were salads of varied kinds, chips, dips and marvelous chocolate cake. Deb handed out ice cream bars. Nothing beats a summer party on the deck, especially one with good musicians and singers.

We got to see friends and make some new ones. There were quite a few folks from the St. George's Channel area and Ross Point. Kit and I were the only ones from Marble Mountain, though Iris should count as she was born here, Gabi & Martin from BHI, and another "out of control" couple from Cleveland, as we were described as being much like them. I am surprised at the people who didn't show up, some from MM and Malagawatch who assured us they would be there. I wonder what else was happening last night that pulled people to other gatherings. It was their loss, everyone had a great time.

Thanks, Rob & Louise, for the great party!

Beer & Dogs Party at Rob & Louise's!

Tags: Being Neighborly Food & Entertainment Fun Life Local News
Rob has asked me to share this invitation with you. On Saturday, July 10th, Louise and Rob Woodley will be holding an informal ‘beer and dogs’ do at their new home. They would like very much if you would come and join them and celebrate their moving out of the garage and into a real house.

The party will begin at 3pm and will go until whenever it ends.

They will be supplying the beer and dogs. If you want to bring more beer, or stuff to go with dogs, then feel free – but it’s really not necessary just as long as you bring yourselves (and anyone else you think we know, but whose email address we don’t have!) Musicians – a chance for a jam might present itself. Stranger things have happened.

We’re looking forward to seeing Rob, meeting Louise and seeing them in their new home in West Bay Marshes. See you there!

What a fabulous time we all had at the St. George's Channel Hall with entertainment provided by Rob Woodley, Pat Lamey, Heather Richards, Tim Laborie and Adam Cook and friends.

The music started at 7:30, with a full house and then some, and played until 10:00 with only a break for sandwiches, sweets and tea at 8:30. It was a blast and I am sure that everyone had a great time.

What a great bunch of people they are at St. George's Channel! They managed to raise approximately $1,137.00 for our new hall fund. Thank you all for your wonderful and much appreciated support. You rock! We couldn't ask for better neighbors.

Annual Tidying of the Malagawatch Cemetery

Tags: Being Neighborly
A wonderful group of people gathered at the old (pioneer?) cemetery in Malagawatch for the annual cleanup. By the time I got there just after 8:00 a.m., a goodly team of volunteers had already made great progress. There were plenty of rakes being put to good use, plus no fewer than 3 tractors dumping dirt to fill in spots that had sunken in and spreading lime on the soil to help the grass grow nicely.

It was a good mix of people from Marble Mountain to Orangedale and in between. There were Richard with his equipment spreading fill dirt, Martin & Gabi raking and clipping and filling, plus they brought food to share, Irene was overseeing and raking and spreading, plus she brought food to share, Donna, Hughie with his Clara Belle spreading lime, Donald was filling and raking, Cheryl was raking and bagging and dumping, and myself plus some names I can't recall. I got a nice bag of leaf litter for my compost.

It was visiting day for the dogs in the cemetery. Richard's black lab, Barley, Donald & Cheryls mongrels Star and Cindy, plus a cute little Maltese with pretty bows in her hair all had a good time visiting their canine and human friends.

That is a beautiful cemetery. As is typical for the old cemeteries, it is set at the water's edge, overlooking the lake because bodies were transported by boat before roads were built. It is surrounded by woods and nicely groomed, making it look like a lovely park. Some of the graves closest to the shoreline date back to the original settlers and you can read on the headstone the name of their place of birth in Scotland. Very interesting. It's a great place to visit and I recommend a visit if you have never been there.

Furag Again, By The Bonfire

Tags: Being Neighborly Entertainment
Halloween night was so warm that it's a wonder the furag didn't melt. especially as it was by the fire. (Furag - whipped cream with oats mixed in, it's tastier than you think.)

I just remembered - my tea leaves fortune. She saw a kite, which means something good in my life is going to take off, and another dog. Hmmm, what will it be?

Visiting Tour Bus

Tags: Being Neighborly
Did anyone meet the Tim's tour bus at the lookoff yesterday? I missed them altogether. Armin said there was quite a crowd and they were drinking wine. Honestly, the weather was so yucky I thought there was a good chance they'd cancel their tour but the afternoon turned out to be suitable if not perfect for a visit to the lookoff.
