Open that Bottle Night

Category Other
Tonight, according to the Wall Street Journal was "Open that bottle Night" a time each year when you open a bottle of wine you have been saving for a special occasion. Due to the very restrictive import restrictions on the importation of wine into Nova Scotia, we are only allowed to bring a couple of bottles with us when we cross the border, and there is not much of a selection available in the state run liquor stores. But I rummaged around in the wine cellar and found a bottle of 1999 Camigliano Brunello di Montalcino which I didn't know we had, (I think I bought it at the roadside alcohol emporiums that the State of New Hampshire runs right on 95) and opened it tonight. It was fabulous - I only wish I had a few more bottles of it, or even anything close. I'd probably get a lot of argument from some quarters, but with Brunello, Barbaresco, Barolo, Barbera, Amarone, Sangiovese, Chianti and dozens of other choices, I think that the Italians make the world's best wines for just about every use and price range.

Gravatar Image1 - I have recently discovered Prosecco sparkling wines from Italy and have found that they definitely appeal to my palate. They are usually reasonably priced ($10-15 per bottle) and don't make me pucker when i drink them. It's amazing how much time (and money) you can spend on trying new wines from around the world.
